Description

Announcing Spring Quarter Faculty Roundtables

Select Fridays at the TECHB@R in the Regenstein Library (JRL 162).

Faculty Roundtables on Advanced Teaching Practices and Technologies continues in spring quarter. The lunch-hour roundtables, co-sponsored by the Chicago Center for Teaching and ASTS, offer faculty an opportunity to discuss good pedagogical practices and encourage instructors to share effective pedagogical tools. At each roundtable, featured faculty members from across the University will briefly share their experiences on a featured topic, after which the majority of time will be devoted to discussion and questions. A light lunch will be provided. The roundtables are open to all faculty, and we especially encourage new faculty to attend.

April 10, 2015, noon to 1:30 p.m. — Extensive Collaboration

In Winter Quarter, Professor WJT “Tom” Mitchell co-taught “Spectacle and Surveillance” with Bernard Harcourt (professor of law at Columbia University and Director, Columbia Center for Contemporary Critical Thought). The experimental seminar was sponsored by the Center for Disciplinary Innovation of the Franke Institute for the Humanities, the Neubauer Colloquium, and the “Art and Public Life” program. Students and faculty in Chicago and New York collaborated remotely using video conferencing tools. Tom will discuss the techniques, rewards, and challenges of a working with students 700 miles apart.
